If you are like me, getting on track with daylight savings has been a challenge. Thankfully, my new classic and modern timepiece by Shore Projects has kept me on schedule, and in style! Shore Projects watches are elegant timepieces for men and women. But the best part about them is the story behind the brand.
A true heritage brand, Shore Projects was founded on a love of the British seaside, with the goal of creating classic timepieces for everyone. They also promote a philanthropic message, and donate £1 for every watch sold to the Marine Conservation Society, an organization dedicated to increasing protection levels for aquatic wildlife and habitats, and improving the conditions of seas and coastlines.
I caught up with the founders to learn more about the brand:
SKP: What was the inspiration behind the brand?
SP: Shore Projects is inspired by the British seaside. Two of us lived on the coast growing up, so summers were very much spent on our own shoreline and not abroad. I remember owning an Animal watch as a kid that you could change its Velcro strap and I was in love with that watch and haven’t owned a watch since starting Shore Projects. We wanted to create a classic watch where you have the ability to change its look through the strap you choose to wear it with. Something you would never get bored of!
SKP: Who is the team behind Shore Projects? How have their backgrounds and experience shaped the approach to design?
SP: We all met at Bath University in the UK, where we studied business – pretty much because none of us knew what we wanted to do with our lives. Two of us left after the third year of a four year course and set up an online travel business and the other graduated and went into marketing. We have always been good mates and with a combination of online experience, marketing and branding we make a good team.
SKP: How would you describe the Shore Projects brand to someone you met for the first time?
SP: Our homepage says it best: ‘Shore Projects is a watch brand inspired by the beauty and fun of the British seaside. Our ambition is to create timeless, quality products that can be worn every day.’
SKP: Who is the Shore Projects woman or man?
SP: Someone who is up for adventure, who embraces change and loves the British seaside as much as we do.
SKP: How do current fashion trends play a part in the design of the watches?
SP: In the straps we will look at what’s on trend, because we want to keep the product interesting and relevant, but the watch faces are very much classic looking and we think that combination is what makes Shore Projects special.
SKP: I love the idea of an interchangeable strap mechanism – what has the response from the consumer been like for this innovative feature?
SP: It means everything to us. It keeps it interesting for our customers who are always waiting to see what the next range of straps will be.
SKP: What watch from the collection are the founders loving right now?
SP: The Morecambe is probably the favorite amongst the founders.
SKP: Tell me a little more about the #goodtimes photo project?
SP: Goodtimes is our weekly photo competition, where we give away a watch to the photo that resonates most with us at Shore Projects! The competition celebrates the good times from all over the world. You can join the Shore Projects community on Instagram (@shore_projects) by sharing imagery that best embodies your good times around the shoreline. From beach holidays, to day trips, we want to see everyone enjoying the shore in their own way. For more information please visit this page.
Shore Projects watches can be found online at ShoreProjects.com and Nordstrom.com, and in select Nordstrom stores.
Note: I received a watch from Shore Projects to try out. The opinions expressed above are my own.
