Seen all over the runways, pretty pleats are on my must-have list. Lately I have been searching for the perfect knee-length pleated skirt. A mixture of ethereal and lunching-lady sophisticate, a brightly hued pleated skirt is an ideal stand-in for a basic pencil or full-skirt.
Longer-length hems are in style this season, particularly the “midi-skirt”, which hits at knee or just below knee length. When worn with sophisticated knits or blouses, and a topped with a blazer, the look works well for the office. Or, opt for an antique-lace top and faux-fur jacket for more of a 70’s bohemian look. When wearing midi-length skirts, be sure the hem falls at or only slightly below the knee, to avoid looking like you are being swallowed by the skirt. Below are a few options of pleated skirts that will take you through wintery weather and into the warmer temps.
A gorgeous animal-print adorns the silky Tucker Pleated Skirt ($322.99). Also available in a variety of pretty prints, these skirts take center-stage, and work best with more muted pieces. Rich jewel-tones of the pleated skirts by Halston Heritage ($262.50) flatter any skin tone and pair well with or without tights.
A bit shorter, hitting at just above the knee, the WallpapHer Pleated Skirt ($34) from Nordstrom is an economical choice. Speaking of hem lines, I also love the look of a pleated mini-skirt with a fitted sweater and tights. It offers a slightly retro take on the trend and is super flattering, and a great way to layer with tights in chillier temps. Asos offers a large selection of pleated fashion, from mini-, midi-, and long skirts, to dresses, in tons of different fabrics. The ASOS Midi Skirt with Pleats ($47.27) is a stylish basic. Available in rich colors, this skirt has a slightly higher waist that looks amazing with tucked in blouses or knit tops.
What do you think of the pleat trend? Would you wear a pleated skirt?
